Technology and the Job Market for Teachers
The job market for teachers, especially in Michigan, can be quite limited. Many new teachers graduate from college with their bachelor's degree in education and are ready to change the world. However, some of these individuals often lose hope because they cannot find employment. As a result, an edge, in whatever form possible, is essential!
A current professor suggested that I create an online portfolio using the website Weebly. Weebly allows the user to sign up for free and create a free website without paying for the domain or any other fees.
Not only is Weebly extremely easy to use, it would provide an education major with a definite competitive edge in this grueling market. I could make a website portfolio which describes where I obtained my certification, my field experiences, a classroom management plan I hope to follow, my goals for future students, useful materials I will use in my classroom, and more.
As a candidate for a teaching position, this portfolio, encased in a USB drive, would be very impressive. It would show the educators interviewing me that I am able to use technology easily. As my professor mentioned, this is a strong benefit for upcoming teacher candidates because we can teach the veteran teachers how they can integrate technology in their classroom. This saves the school money in terms of paper and more.
I plan to use Weebly to make my own portfolio and I hope it will prove useful during interviews!
